Mahindra & Mahindra
|
The company and brand name Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) is derived from the brothers names of its founders Kailash Chandra Mahindra and Jagdish Chandra Mahindra.
In 1945, Muhammad & Mahindra was founded by the Mahindra brothers and Malik Ghulam Muhammad in Ludhiana, Punjab. In 1947, after India gained independence and Pakistan was formed, Muhammad left the company and emigrated to Pakistan. The following year, the company name was changed to Mahindra & Mahindra.
There is a theory that Mahindra is derived from the names of Indian god and the god of Hindu mythology, but these names are Mahendra and the spelling is different.
