The company and brand name TOYOTA is derived from the name of its founder Sakichi Toyoda.
In the summer of 1936, the company TOYODA ran a public competition to design a new logo. Of 27,000 entries, the winning entry was the three Japanese katakana letters for "トヨタ (TOYOTA)".
