HIJET is a mixture of the English words "hi" meaning high performance, and "midget" meaning ultra-small size. HIJET was also named after "this car with higher performance than DAIHATSU midget".
"GRAN" of GRANCARGO is derived from the Spanish word "gran", which means like "big, great, magnificent". GRANCARGO means the expanded version of HIJET CARGO.
