ECLIPSE is derived from the English word "eclipse", which means "one celestial body obscures another". This name does not include the origins about "racing horses", which include in ECLIPSE COUPE and SPYDER.
CROSS stands for crossover. ECLIPSE CROSS comes with a wish of "to give the driver a vivid impression, to stimulate the mind, and uplifting".
PHEV stands for "Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle". It was not named "PHV" because this PHEV system basically operates at Electric Vehicle (EV) mode.
