"180" of 180SX means CA18DET engine displacement(1809cc) that was originally mounted at the debut. "SX" is the name given to Nissan's middle-sized sporty coupe for export. After the minor change, the engine was changed to SR20DE/DET engine displacement(1998cc), but the car name was not changed to "200SX" but was maintained at "180SX".
