"R" of R2 is the general term of SUBARU light car lineup. "R" was chosen because "R" has a rich impression and has a good feeling. The simple, good sounding and symbolic name of R2 expresses the new values that differs from conventional light cars. "2" is derived from 360cc light car "R-2" produced in 1969-1973. By using the name of R-2 again, R2 expresses SUBARU's passion for the automobile manufacturing.
