The company and brand name Mercedes is derived from the name of the daughter of Emil Jellinek, a consul and businessman of the Austro-Hungarian Empire who tried to buy and sell cars from Daimler.
The company and brand name Benz is derived from the name of Karl Benz, who founded Benz & Cie. Rheinische Gasmotorenfabrik in 1883.
