The company and brand name LOTUS is derived from the name of the racing car made by its founder Anthony Colin Bruce Chapman in 1949. There are two different theories as to why LOTUS was chosen as the racing car name. The most popular theory is that Chapman and his friends fell asleep during making racing cars all night. When discussing the matter they agreed that the car had the mythical power of the LOTUS blossom like Buddhism and Hinduism to put people to sleep. The other theory is that the racing name was suggested by Hazel, Chapman's wife and business partner.
