Cadillac

The company and brand name Cadillac is derived from the name of its founder Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac.

CHEVROLET

The most popular theory: The brand name Jeep is derived from a slurring of GP meaning either "General Purpose" or "Government Purpose". Joe Frazer, Willys-Overland President from 1939 to 1944, claimed to have coined the word jeep by slurring the initials G and P.

The 2nd theory: Jeep is derived from a pronounce of the Ford GPW, abbreviation actually means G for "Government use", P to designate its 80-inch wheelbase and W to indicate its Willys-Overland designed engine.

The 3rd theory: According to the testimony of R. Lee Ermey, television and voice actor, and Marine drill instructor, Jeep is derived from a comic book character "Eugene the Jeep". This character is Popeye's "jungle pet" and was "small, able to move between dimensions and could solve seemingly impossible problems".

The 4th theory: Jeep stands for "Just Enough Essential Parts". This acronym reflects the bare-bones reliability of Jeeps.

LINCOLN

The company and brand name LINCOLN is derived from the name of Abraham Lincoln, who won for in the 1860 presidential election. The Lincoln Motor Company was founded in 1917 by engineer Henry M. Leland. He also adopted Lincoln as the company and brand name.

MERCURY

The brand name MERCURY is derived from the Roman god Mercury. The Roman god Mercury is the god of financial gain, commerce, etc.

SATURN

The company and brand name SATURN was created by Phil Garcia, chief designer, GM Design Studio. According to his testimony, SATURN is derived from the Saturn rocket for the Apollo program that carried Americans to the moon during the space race with the USSR.

TESLA

The brand name TESLA is derived from the name of Nikola Tesla, the inventor of the first alternating current (AC) motor and AC generation.
